So, I realize I have not written on here in a very long while! On Jan. 14th, as our stuff was being packed into a moving truck, all of our plans for the move got pushed way forward. The original plan was to stay with my mom for about a month to see if we could get housing in Louisiana. Then on the 14th we got a call from base housing telling us that they had a place if we wanted it. Or we could wait until April. So, without knowing what we were moving into we moved our plans up a month and stayed with my mom for three days!! Vic and I had discussed it and decided that it had to be better than what we lived in while in Germany. There, we were in a third floor apartment that only had communal washer/dryer in the basement!
Sunday, Jan. 17th, we left my mom’s about 8pm and headed to our new life in Louisiana! The kids did wonderful since we drove all through the night! I was pulling the covered trailer and Vic was pulling his Harley on a trailer we rented. It was a very uneventful trip, however we wound up stopping an hour and a half out to take a nap for our own safety! When dawn starts to break I just can’t drive anymore without rest, as long as it’s dark I’m usually ok. So, we made it safely, stayed on the base hotel for a night and then went to check out our new home. We were thrilled! It is a four bedroom, two and half bath with a one car garage! It is a duplex and we share a wall with our neighbor, but thankfully we get along! We deal with each other’s surround sound well:) We have been so blessed this move…we rented out our house in GA, got housing on base in LA that we like, and had our things delivered the day after we moved in! I can’t thank Heavenly Father enough for such a smooth move! We have also been very blessed in having great neighbors with every move we’ve made! Within just a few days we met most of our neighbors and I and the children have made some really good friends! Caitlynn and Daniel both have friends their ages to play with…girls for Caitlynn to hang with and boys for Daniel to hang with…it’s going really well!
The only issue we have found is the school system here. They are not as parent friendly and the kids wear uniforms…which isn’t all that bad! Caitlynn and Daniel go to different schools (Daniel’s is Pre-K – 1st and Caitlynn’s is 2nd – 4th). Caitlynn’s school has no walls and the classrooms are divided with curtain/divider things. It seems to work ok, but hopefully they will follow through with the promise to put up walls this summer. However, I may just try to put them in a school with better test scores that they will both be able to attend (it’s Pre-K – 12th, kind of, the high school is a different building on the same campus).
Vic got his unit assignment and is assigned to 2-30 Infantry, 4 Brigade/10th Mtn. His unit was off training when he signed in so that put him on Rear D, which is the guys that stay back to run things at home. So, he still doesn’t have a company that he’s assigned to, therefore he is still in a bit of limbo. In the next couple of weeks he should be settled and be getting to know the guys he’ll be working with.
For the most part we have settled in and gotten comfortable enough to be happy here. Daniel and Caitlynn will be starting baseball/softball in March. I am very excited to have them involved in sports, finally! So, videos will hopefully get posted in a timely manner!
Allaunna is growing so fast! Her vocabulary is expanding everyday…”Where is?” “Goggy”(Doggy) “Peas”(Please) “Nite, Nite” and so on. She is such a smart little girl!
